Last night, in honor of Valentine's Day, Lilly attended a Royal Ball with her father and two of her friends. They danced, they made valentines, they received roses...they arrived home at the dreadfully late hour of 8:30 p.m. and our princess Lilly was exhausted. She looked so pretty and was wearing the beautiful tiara that Aunt Kelly gave her when she was born. I could tell as she left that she felt very "royal" indeed.

Tomorrow is the 40th birthday of one of our very good friends. A few years ago, when I started making cakes, James let me know that he would be expecting a "boob" cake for his 40th. So, here it is. It's a PG version of the one I intended to make, but I can't make a truly graphic cake with kids running around. Besides...would anyone actually want to eat a truly graphic cake? Ew.

Happy Valentine's Day
Greetings! Valentine's Day is almost here and I've been busy in the kitchen getting these little cakes ready for a bake sale at Steve's workplace. The proceeds go to the Make a Wish foundation and I'm hoping these (I made 6 of them) will fetch a pretty price. I've packaged them with two forks tied into the bow. Very "valentiny", I think.

Hello, y'all. Last night we celebratd the 40th birthday of our friend and neighbor, A.C. who, as it turns out, was NOT surprised by his surprise party. I made the cake in keeping with his "Over the Hill" theme (or, perhaps, the "Under the Hill" theme) and I am not sure he completely saw the humor in this cake. I heard him tell someone that he hoped I didn't hex him by issuing the date of death. Let me assure him that this was in reference to his YOUTH only (although his actual birthday does fall on Friday the 13th this year).
So, about the cake...
The top two layers are a scratch lemon pound cake with sweet lemon curd filling. The bottom is a cream cheese/almond pound cake. The tombstones are made of fondant and the dirt was made from crushed cookies. Everything else was buttercream -- even the stone walls. I will have to say this: A smoke-filled bar is a terrible, terrible place to eat cake. But we had a great time!!! Hats off to Elena for a wonderful party!!!!!
